Junipine luncheon, 6/30/18
As "consolation" for the
cancelled Durango Tour, OUR CLUB luncheon TOUR FOR SATURDAY, June 30th
2018 WILL BE THE JUNIPINE LODGE & RESTAURANT IN BEAUTUFUL OAK CREEK
CANYON
We'll meet at 8:30AM at the Albertson's shopping center on the north
side of Carefree Hwy just East of the I 17 intersection.
We meet at the far east end by
the bank. Albertson’s has coffee, snacks and restrooms available.
At 8:45 AM we'll head west on Carefree Hwy about 20 miles & turn right
on Hwy 60 toward Wickenburg where we will have the usual comfort stop
for 10 or 15 minutes at the McDonalds. When departing McDonalds, enter
the traffic circle and follow the signs Hwy 89. About 5 miles from
Wickenburg, Hwy 89 bears to the right, and that is where you want to go.
If you continue straight ahead you will be on Hwy 93 to Las Vegas.
(we’ll miss you) In approximately 8 more miles we climb the hill
up to the town of Yarnell which is the “back way” into Prescott. Remain
on Hwy 89 through the Prescott National Forest.
As we enter the town of
Prescott on Hwy 89 it becomes White Spar Rd for a short distance and
then becomes Montezuma Street, stay on Montezuma Street past Goodwin St
and Whiskey row, remain on Montezuma past the Courthouse which will be
on your right. Gurley is the next street, turn right and remain on
Gurley St ( also Hwy 89 ) for about 1 mile. A
comfort break will be taken at a local gas station and we’ll communicate
the stop by club radio.
Following the comfort break, 89 will
take you to a fork in the road where 89 continues north and Hwy 69 goes
to the right and will take you back to I 17 and Phoenix.
Stay to the left
on hwy 89 and in approximately 6 miles you will come to the
intersection of Hwy 89 and 89A.
Turn right and follow the signs
on 89A to Jerome
do
not go straight on hwy 89, that will take you to ashfork
We will continue via 89A to Jerome & Clarkdale, there is a gas station
in Clarkdale a Shell, I believe, at the bottom of the hill when you drop
down out of Jerome and we will park and wait for the group to get
together. It’s also handy for a comfort break and fuel if you need it.
We’ll turn right, out of the gas station and head toward Cottonwood. You
will still be on Hwy 89A but they also call it Cottonwood Blvd.
At the corner of
Cottonwood Blvd (89A) and Main St. turn right and follow Main St (also
called 89A) for a short distance and you will come to a fork where Hwy
260 goes off to the right and 89A to the left.
Bear left (89A) toward Sedona. and remain on Hwy 89A that
will lead you through Sedona (many traffic lights) into Oak Creek Canyon
and eventually to the Junipine Lodge on your left.
I estimate our arrival time at 12:30 PM approximately.
Please have a full fuel tank when starting the
trip and remember to bring your club radio and name tag. We do need your
RSVP so we will have an accurate count for the restaurant. I have to
provide this to them ahead of time so please, let's hear from you.
There are a few different choices for the return
route and that can be decided during or after lunch, not everyone will
select the same route home.
We look forward
to a great turnout for this tour. Please
email
your RSVP so I will know who to expect at the starting point.
Thanks,
Paul Ebeyer, President
Arizona BMW Z Series Club
