Update Unoffical Z Series Trip To the California Coast September 18-25,2004

Our trip is firming up. By popular demand the trip is now a week-long excursion, leaving early on Saturday, September 18th and returning on Saturday, September 25th.

For those of you that have indicated an interest, it is time to firm up your commitment and take the next step. We are making hotel and meal arrangements and need a good idea of who will be making this trip with us. Our hotels are being blocked for 12 rooms and, although we may be able to expand that somewhat, it will be first come, first served.

A brief outline of the trip is as follows:

• Day 1, Sat., 9/18 - Leave Phoenix, drive up around Las Vegas, through Death Valley and over to Bishop, CA for the night. Our arrangements are with the Best Western Creekside Inn. To reserve your room you must follow these instructions: Call Monday - Friday, 8am-3pm and ask to speak with Emily only. The phone number is (760) 872-3044. You must identify yourself as a member of the AZ BMW Roadster Club. The rate is $118 + tax and includes a breakfast buffet. Remember, speak only to Emily. Nobody else will know anything about this.

• Day 2, Sun., 9/19 - Leave Bishop and enter Yosemite National Park via Tioga Pass. For those of you who have never been to Yosemite, the scenery is breathtaking and the drive through the pass and down to the Village is awesome. We will take some time to see the Park and then head across the great Central Valley of California to Monterey where we will spend the night. The hotel tentatively selected is the Hyatt Regency Monterey. The web rate of $165 per night is available through the website at www.hyatt.com. For those in existence for 62 years or more, a senior rate of $99 per night is available. Participant Lori Ann Harnish is working on securing the $99 rate for all participants, even those who have not yet reached "maturity". Please note that there is a $10 fee for canceling a Hyatt reservation booked online for this hotel. This rate is quite a bargain for Monterey at this time of the year and we would suggest locking in your reservation at your earliest convenience.

• Day 3, Mon., 9/20 - This day will be reserved for sightseeing and touring the attractions of Monterey, Carmel, and the Carmel Valley. We will stay in the same Monterey hotel.

• Day 4, Tue., 9/21 - Depart Monterey, possibly mid-morning to noon, proceeding south on the Coast Highway, Hwy 1, down the Big Sur coastline. Spectacular scenery (if there is no fog and we picked mid-September to avoid it) and a very interesting road. Lunch will probably be at the landmark Nepenthe (www.nepenthebigsur.com). Arrival late afternoon at Morro Bay, still an operating fishing village. It was decided to make this a base of operations for Days 5 and 6 and therefore we will be staying at the La Serena Inn in Morro Bay on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights. We have negotiated a starting rate of $89 which will apply to the first two nights and the third night will be FREE! And, breakfast is included each morning.

Here is the breakdown of the rooms available -

1st Floor - no view, $89 + tax for 2 nights, 3rd night free

2nd Floor - partial view, $99 + tax for 2 nights, 3rd night free

3rd Floor - full ocean view, $109 + tax for 2 nights, 3rd night free

These rates are for King rooms, no smoking. There are only two smoking rooms available. If you require smoking, reserve now. • Day 5 - Touring the Central California Coast area with such attractions as Hearst Castle, wine country, boat tours, mountain drives, etc.

• Day 6 - Same as Day 5

• Day 7 - Depart Morro Bay after breakfast for the short drive to Santa Barbara where we will spend our last night in a hotel to be determined. This drive is only about 125 miles, giving us most of the day to see the attractions in and around Santa Barbara. 

• Day 8 - Depart after breakfast for our return to Arizona.
